Day 3: Quotes of the Day - Thursday 26 July

Gabriela BRUSQUETTI (PAR) on how they managed to beat Poland in their first-ever main round game:

“At first we didn't expect we could beat Poland, but last night all of us had a talk and we decided that we could. We made a tremendous effort just to get to this world championship and once we were here we gave a big surprise beating Australia.

“We changed some things we were doing wrong, especially in the emotional part, and we strengthened ourselves us a group, so when we jumped onto court we were determined to win - there wasn't a single moment today in which we thought we were losing this game.”

Coach Jose IGNACIO VELOSO (PAR) on what he is feeling about being at a beach handball world championship:

"This is our greatest moment; just being here is already a dream for us as we are learning new trends, meeting people and getting to know fully what the level of international beach handball is - these are the greatest things for us and we are enjoying every moment.”

Coach Marcio MAGLIANO (BRA) on never underestimating your opponents:

“I said to my team at the end of the Vietnam match that there are no such things as favourites. The only ‘easy’ game is the one you just won, and I didn’t like their performance in this game as when Vietnam put their game up to the same level as us, my players weren’t expecting it.

“It matters how we win - we need to play every game as champions and if that’s not enough to win, then it’s OK. In Brazil we have a particular way of playing – a ‘Brazilian school’ if I can say that."

Goalkeeper James BRENNAN (AUS) on playing, and beating, New Zealand at a world championships:

"It’s a pretty special game for us, we know them well and we’re all very friendly with each other, we’ve had some good battles back in Australia and it nice to play them at this level, it’s so great to have them over here and it’s great for Oceanic handball.

"They always come out firing when they play us and we try to get up for the game as well. There is an extra 10% effort from each player because they’re our neighbours and pride is on the line."
