Coming up: World Championships galore and crunch time in the EHF Champions League

If you are a handball fan, June will treat you right with plenty of World Championship action on the sand and indoor and the European club competitions reaching their business end of the season.

The IHF Women’s Junior (U20) World Championship is back after a four-year hiatus, due to the COVID-19 pandemic that forced the cancellation of the 22nd edition, which was set to have taken place in 2020.

For the first time in history, 32 teams will take part in the IHF Women’s Junior (U20) World Championship, as the reigning champions, Hungary, will be challenged by several contenders in the competition, which will start on 22 June and finish on 3 July.

The 2022 IHF Men’s and Women’s Beach Handball World Championships and 2022 IHF Men’s and Women’s Youth (U18) Beach Handball World Championships are also back in business after a long absence, due to the same reasons as mentioned before.

The city of Heraklion will host both competitions, with the 2022 IHF Men’s and Women’s Youth (U18) Beach Handball World Championships taking place between 14 and 19 June, while the 2022 IHF Men’s and Women’s Beach Handball World Championships are set to start on 21 June and conclude on 26 June.

The Zone 2 youth and junior tournaments of the Men’s IHF Trophy Africa will take place in Conakry, Guinea from 6 to 11 June 2022, while the South American Zone youth and junior tournaments of the Men’s IHF Trophy South and Central America will be held in Asuncion, Paraguay from 7 to 11 June 2022.

Handball will also be represented at the Mediterranean Games, which will be organised in Oran, Algeria, between 25 June and 5 July.

At club level, it is the time for the EHF FINAL4, with the two big winners of this EHF Champions League season being crowned.

Győri Audi ETO KC, Team Esbjerg, Metz Handball and Vipers Kristiansand will challenge for the trophy in the women’s competition in Budapest on 4 and 5 June, while the men’s competition sees Barça, THW Kiel, Telekom Veszprém HC and Łomża Vive Kielce meet in Cologne on 18 and 19 June.
