Coming up: No shortage of handball in September

There will be no shortage of handball in the month of September, as both indoor and beach handball are well-represented throughout the globe, with powerhouses taking the court or the sandy beaches by storm on all continents.

The postponed Asian Games, which were due to take place in Hangzhou, the People’s Republic of China, in 2022, will now throw off, with 13 male teams and nine female teams taking part for the coveted gold medal.

The male teams will use the competition as preparation for the Asian Olympic Qualification Tournament for Paris 2024, due to take place in Doha, Qatar, in October, while the Republic of Korea, recently-qualified for Paris 2024, aim to add another medal to their tally in the female tournament, where they have hosts People’s Republic of China or Japan as main challengers.

The men’s competition is scheduled between 24 September and 5 October, with the women’s competition due to take place between 25 September and 5 October, with both finals scheduled in the last day of the two competitions.

Moving over to Africa, two qualification events for the next editions of the IHF Women’s Youth World Championship and the IHF Women’s Junior World Championship will take place in Monastir, Tunisia.

The 30th edition of the African Women's Junior Handball Championship is scheduled between 7 and 14 September, with 10 teams at the start, while the ninth edition of the African Women's Youth Handball Championship, with nine teams at the start will throw off on 16 September, with the final due to be played on 23 September.

The top clubs in Africa will also face off in the 44th edition of the Men's and Women's African Clubs Championship, including powerhouses like Zamalek, Al-Ahly or Primeiro de Agosto and Petro Luanda. The competition is due to take place between 28 September and 7 October.

In beach handball, the third edition of the Mediterranean Beach Games will take place between 9 and 13 September in Heraklion, Greece, on the same sandy beaches which hosted the IHF Beach Handball World Championship in June 2022.

Eight male teams from two continents and seven female teams from two continents will take part in the competition, with powerhouses like Croatia, Spain or hosts Greece spearheading the landscape for the medal fight.

Another interesting beach handball competition is due to take place in the Balneario Isla Verde in Puerto Rico, as the first-ever edition of the International Beach Handball Tournament is attended by six teams from the South and Central American and the North and Caribbean Confederations, with Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago, Puerto Rico and the United States of America locking horns between 8 and 10 September.
