25 Aug. 2024
Following the conclusion of the 2024 IHF Women’s Youth World Championship, with Spain crowned as the new world champion after a 23:22 win in the final against Hungary, the All Star team of the competition has been revealed.
Six nations are represented in the All-Star team, with winners Spain having two players – MVP Belen Rodriguez Lario and centre back Marta Regordan Silva – in the squad.
The two were the driving forces for Spain’s superb performance in the competition, eight wins in eight matches, with Rodriguez Lario being the team’s top scorer, with 41 goals, and a 66% shooting efficiency, scoring eight goals in the final against Denmark.
Regordan, a player who can shoot with both hands, was one of Spain’s best players in the competition, delivering 18 assists on the way to the trophy.
Finalists Denmark also had two positions covered. Left back Anne Dolberg Plougstrup and the goalkeeping team of Freja Fonseca Nielsen and Zenia Hald Nielsen were selected – with the latter two making it as a duo, as both contributed to an overall 39.8% saving efficiency for Denmark.
Bronze medallists Hungary had right back Virág Fazekas in the All-Star team, but also as the top scorer of the competition, with 54 goals. She was followed in the top goal scorer standings by Germany’s Marlene Tucholke, with 47 goals, and Japan’s Yume Matsumoto, with 46 goals.
Germany’s Aylin Bornhardt and left wing Era Baumann were the last two players completing the All-Star team.
