Both Venezuela teams open South American Zone of IHF Trophy South and Central America with wins

The youth and junior men's tournaments at the South American Zone of the Men's IHF Trophy South and Central America threw off on Tuesday, 23 April, in the Colombian city of Palmira. On day one, two games were held in each of the competitions.

In Group A of the youth (U18) event, Venezuela had the upper hand against Bolivia and took a clear 31:7 victory, while in Group B, Paraguay demonstrated their fire power, defeating Ecuador 67:21. Javier Martinez became Paraguay's top scorer in this match with 12 goals, while Taira Hayashi and Luis Franco added eight goals each to the team's tally. 

On 24 April, home side Colombia will enter the competition in Group A, as they face Bolivia at 18:00 (local time), while Venezuela have a rest day. In Group B, Peru meet Ecuador at 16:00, and Paraguay have a day off.

In the junior (U20) tournament, Venezuela also started with a win, beating Paraguay in a hard-fought Group A match, 30:26, while Colombia proved too strong for Bolivia in Group B, 48:7.

On day two, Ecuador will enter the race in Group A, as they play Venezuela at 12:00, while Paraguay have a day off. And in Group B, Peru play their opening match at the event against Bolivia at 14:00, and home team Colombia enjoy a rest day.
