Beach handball promoted as part of 2022 CONI Trophy

The seventh edition of the CONI Trophy, organised by the Italian National Committee (CONI), gathered 3,000 young athletes under the age of 14 from all over Italy. Since 2014, it has been the most important youth activity event promoting the practice of sport among young people through the synergy of the entire sports system and with the participation of numerous sports associations.

Between 2014 and 2019, the event was held annually in different cities in Italy, and this year, it was back after a three-year break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2022 CONI Trophy took place in Valdichiana Senese, Tuscany, from 29 September to 2 October and featured 41 disciplines. For the first time, beach handball was part of the youth sports festival, with 15 teams composed of five boys and five girls aged below 14 representing various regions of the country.

Ultimately, the team of Veneto claimed the trophy, winning all their five games in the tournament and losing just one set, as they beat Sicily 2:1 in the group stage. In the semi-final, they proved too strong for Tuscany (3:0), and in the final, Veneto defeated Alto Adige with the same 3:0 score. Liguria earned bronze, beating Tuscany in the third-place match.
