Asian top teams fight for gold at the 11th AHF Asian Women’s Youth Handball Championship

The 11th AHF Asian Women’s Youth Handball Championship will take place in Jinggangshan, People’s Republic of China, between 18 to 26 July 2025, with eight teams in place at the start of the competition. This is also a qualification event for the 2026 IHF Women’s Youth World Championship, which will take place next summer.

All of the previous winners of the competition – the Republic of Korea, the Islamic Republic of Iran and Japan – will take part in the 2025 AHF Asian Women’s Youth Handball Championship, and all of them have been drawn in the same group.

Therefore, the battle for the top two places, which will see the teams through for the next phase of the competition, the semi-finals, will be fiery in Group B, as the Republic of Korea, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Japan and India are due to battle for one of the coveted spots.

In Group A, hosts People’s Republic of China will be favoured against the Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong-China and Kazakhstan, as the hosts made the podium in four of the last five editions, sealing bronze three times, in 2015, 2017 and 2023 and silver in 2019.

The Republic of Korea have won eight of the 10 editions of the competition, all between 2005 and 2019. The last two winners have been the Islamic Republic of Iran, in 2022, when neither Japan, nor Korea took part, and Japan in 2023.

The reigning champions beat Korea, 24:23, in the final of the previous edition, with that generation making the quarter-finals at the 2024 IHF Women’s Youth World Championship, eventually finishing on the eighth place.

The preliminary round of the 11th AHF Asian Women’s Youth Handball Championship will take place on 18, 19 and 21 July, with the semi-finals scheduled on 23 July. The big final and the bronze medal match are due to take place on 26 July.
