Africa’s best clubs know their groups for Cape Verde

The draw for the 41st edition of the CAHB African Championship of Champion Clubs – also known as the African Champions League – has taken place in Niamey, Niger, with nine women’s teams and 10 men's teams aiming to take the prestigious continental title in the event which will be held in Cape Verde from 4-13 October.

All games will take place on a newly-installed Gerflor floor, donated by the IHF, at the Gimno Desportivo Vavá Duarte in Chã de Areia, Praia, Cape Verde. 

The island nation also recently held the inaugural edition of the African Beach Games, in Sal, with Tunisia’s men and women winning the beach handball gold medals.

PRELIMINARY GROUP DRAW RESULTS

Women’s Competition 
Group A: Primeiro de Agosto (Angola), DGSP (Congo), HC Heritage (DR Congo), FAP (Cameroon), Bandama (Cote d’Ivoire)

Group B: Petro Atletico (Angola), ABO Sport (Congo), Evabuka (DR Congo), Atletico de Mindelo (Cape Verde)

Men’s Competition
Group A: Sporting Club (Egypt), Inter Club (Angola), JSK (DR Congo), Red Star (Cote d’Ivoire), Atletico de Mindelo (Cape Verde)

Group B: Zamalek (Egypt), Widad Smara (Morocco), FAP (Cameroon), Etoile (Congo), Desportivo de Praia (CPV)

In the 40th edition held last year Zamalek faced fellow countrymen Al Ahly in the final of the men’s competition and won 27:25. Primeiro de Agosto faced fellow Angolans, Petro, in the women’s final, dispatching them 25:21.
