2nd IHF Wheelchair Handball Seminar gets underway on Saturday

The 2nd IHF Wheelchair Handball Seminar takes place this Saturday and Sunday (4 to 5 September) where eight wheelchair handball experts from around the globe will share valuable knowledge about the discipline of wheelchair handball.

On Saturday, the Seminar will begin with an introduction by Dr Frantisek Taborsky, Chairman of the IHF Wheelchair Handball Working Group and member of the IHF Executive Committee. The former player, coach and functionary from the Czech Republic will give a short overview of past, current and future IHF activities regarding wheelchair handball.

Danilo Ferreira, coach of the Portugal national wheelchair handball team, follows with a presentation focusing on different aspects of attack and defence in wheelchair handball (six-a-side). He will also provide exercises to boost team performance.

Martijn Dokkum, the Netherlands national team and CSV Handbal player, is next with a lecture on the recruitment of players. His presentation will focus on the interaction between coaches and players on and off the court, and his experience of trying to recruit new players.

Brazilian Flávio Melo, a member of the IHF Wheelchair Handball Working Group and President of the South and Central America Handball Confederation Wheelchair Handball Working Group, caps off Saturday sharing some experience of training in wheelchair handball (four-a-side), as well as fundamentals and specific characteristics of the sport, structure of training sessions and examples of activities for the tactical and technical development of athletes.

The Seminar continues Sunday with four more presentations.

Daniel Magalhaes, a Brazilian referee and a Wheelchair Handball Referee Chief, kicks off day two with a presentation about the IHF Rules of the Game for Wheelchair Handball Six-a-side and Wheelchair Handball Four-a-side.

Marc de Sousa from France will elaborate on the tasks of the technical delegate before and after the match, and check of the class points of the players.

And finally, Vicenç Bretó from Spain, IHF Playing Rules and Referees Commission Lecturer and former IHF Referee, will give an address focusing on the recruitment and organisation of referees and technical delegates.

Both days of the Seminar will end with a Q&A session after the final presentation.
