2029 and 2031 IHF World Championship organising rights to be awarded on 16 April

The organising rights for the 2029 and 2031 editions of the IHF Men’s World Championship and the 2029 and 2031 editions of the IHF Women’s World Championship will be awarded during the IHF Council meeting taking place in Créteil, France, on 16 April 2024.

After opening the bidding process, the International Handball Federation (IHF) has received letters of intent from various interested nations. Among those, the following final bidders have been selected  to present their bids at the headquarters of the French Handball Federation during the IHF Council Meeting on 16 April 2024.

The presentation order has been set as follows:

  • Spain: 2029 IHF Women’s World Championship
  • Czechia/Poland: 2031 IHF Women’s World Championship
     
  • Denmark/Iceland/Norway: 2029 and 2031 IHF Men’s World Championship
  • France/Germany: 2029 and 2031 IHF Men’s World Championship

After listening to the above-mentioned presentations, the IHF Council will vote for the awarding of the respective rights for the editions of the IHF World Championship. The winning bids will be announced  after all applicants have presented their bids and the voting has been finalised.

The organising rights for the world handball flagship competitions have been awarded until 2029 as follows: the 2025 IHF Men’s World Championship will take place in Croatia, Denmark and Norway, while the 2027 IHF Men’s World Championship will be held in Germany.

The 2025 IHF Women’s World Championship will take place in Germany and the Netherlands, while the 2027 IHF Women’s World Championship is set to be played in Hungary.
