09 Oct. 2024
Portugal is the destination for 32 of Europe’s best Beach Handball club teams as the 2024 edition of the EHF Beach Handball Champions Cup gets underway in Porto Santo on Thursday (10 October). It is third, consecutive year the Portuguese destination has hosted the prestigious event.
32 teams (16 men’s, 16 women’s) will participate in event which concludes on Sunday (13 October) and features teams from 11 European nations, including Denmark, France, Great Britain, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland.
In the men’s competition, 10 different countries will be represented with the host nation featuring the most (three teams). Title-holders from Denmark, Rødby Beach Boys will be the ones to beat, while traditional Beach Handball powerhouses 12Monkeys Köln (Germany) and Escola de Formação de Espinho - Os Tigres / LEVEL (Portugal) will be looking to upset the northern Europeans.
Danes also hold the women’s title with an almost de-facto national team – The Danish Beachhandball Dream – providing a stern test for the teams from 11 countries, with the three host nation club sides hoping for glory on home sand.
Both the men’s and women’s All-star Teams will see fan voting as part of the process, with goalkeepers, defenders and MVPs chosen selected by those watching.
All players nominated for the entire All-star Teams will join those nominated at the ebt Finals 2024 for the EHF Excellence Awards 2023/24 MVP title in Beach Handball, with the winners to be honoured at the event in December, according to a statement on eurohandball.com.
