Tunisia, Kazakhstan in Group III, plus Serbia and Brazil in Group IV won their maiden matches in the President’s Cup of the 2026 IHF Women’s Youth World Championship, securing the first two places in their groups, as they hit the four-point mark.

For their second win at the 2026 IHF Women’s Youth World Championship, Tunisia had to sweat, as Uruguay, still on zero in this competition, produced a strong performance to constantly threaten the African side.

By the break, Tunisia had a one-goal lead, 11:10, and they finally broke through thanks to a 4:0 run between the 43rd and the 47th minutes, but their top scorers in the competition, Nour Ouni and Ons Slama, combined for only three goals from 14 shots, having an off day.

Tunisia will, however, face Kazakhstan tomorrow in the battle for the first place in the group, after the Asian side mounted a comeback after a slow start against Canada, which saw them down three goals early in the match.

A 6:0 run cancelled Canada’s lead, as Banu Kopzhan and Nurdana Kyrgyzbay combined for 17 goals, lifting Kazakhstan to their second win in a row and to the top two places in the group, which means that the Asian side cannot finish lower than the 24th place in the final standings.

It was, however, a nip-and-tuck battle, with Canada tying the score, 26:26, with three minutes to go, but Kyrgyzbay, Kazakhstan’s top scorer, delivered her 10th goal to help her side win the match.

Uruguay and Canada also face off on Tuesday, with the winner avoiding featuring in the Placement Matches 29-32.

Brazil vs Algeria 41:23 (22:9)
Serbia vs Angola 33:26 (14:13)

Beatriz Isabela Monteiro Silva scored twice the number of goals in this match than she previously did in the first three matches of the preliminary round, being the driving force for Brazil’s excellent outing against Algeria.

Monteiro Silva scored 10 goals in a match where Brazil controlled the situation from start to finish, providing their best attacking performance, scoring 22 goals in the first half and 19 in the second one, as all but two of their outfield players scored at least once.

In contrast, Algeria’s attacking efficiency was stuck at 35%, with their 27 turnovers failing to put any meaningful pressure on Brazil.

Brazil will face Serbia in the last match of this group and it will be a battle between the two teams which have four points already, having won two of the four matches they played so far.

Angola produced their best performance so far at Romania 2026, scoring at an efficiency of over 60%, but in the end it was too little for their match against a plucky Serbia side.

Serbia turned the ball over too many times throughout the match – finishing with 21 turnovers – but in the end they pulled away in the second half, when a 3:0 run midway in the second part of the match was crucial to see them open a five-goal lead, 25:20.
