Top African teams to battle it for the titles in the CAHB African Club Championships

The 46th edition of the CAHB Men's and Women's African Club Championship will be held in Casablanca, Morocco, from 11 October to 20 October, with 19 teams at the start, 11 teams in the men’s competition and eight teams in the women’s competition.

In the women’s competition, the winner of the last eight editions – Angolan side Primeiro de Agosto Luanda – is not present, with their archrivals, Petro Atlético de Luanda – lining up at the start. They are the most decorated team in the history of the competition, winning 19 titles and finishing as runners-up eight times in 30 appearances.

They will start the competition in Group B, alongside Africa Sport, from Cote d’Ivoire, AS Forces Armées et Police Yaounde from Cameroon and Flowers from Benin.

However, Petro Atlético de Luanda will face a challenge from rising star Al-Ahly, which finished fourth in the previous edition. The Egyptian side is in Group A, with three other opponents, hosts Nouasser, Tonnerre Kalara Club from Cameroon and ASPAC Cotonou from Benin.

In the men’s competition, the 11 teams have been divided into four groups, one of five teams and one of six teams, with the top four teams in each group progressing to the quarter-finals.

The draw has yielded a mouthwatering clash in the preliminary round, with archrivals Al-Ahly and Zamalek SC facing off in Group A. Alongside the two Egyptian powerhouses, there are three more times vying for a better position, Cote d’Ivoire’s Red Star, Jeunesse Sportife de Kinshasa from RD Congo and Mekele 70 from Ethiopia.

Hosts Mountada are in Group B, alongside the runners-up from the previous edition, Flowers SC from Benin, AS Forces Armées et Police Yaounde from Cameroon, Congo’s Avenir du Rail, Kirkos from Ethiopia and Manga Defi from Gabon.

Zamalek SC are the most decorated team in the history of the competition, with 12 titles, while Al-Ahly have won the title seven times, including the last two editions, when they beat Jeunesse Sportife de Kinshasa in 2023 final, 37:27, and Flowers, 43:22, in the 2024 final.
