Superb September to cater all needs in handball

The spotlight of September shines brightest on the 2025 IHF Men’s Club World Championship, held in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital from 26 September to 2 October. Nine of the world’s top clubswill contest the title at the flagship club event. The competition begins with the group phase from 26 to 28 September in a round-robin format, with the semi-finals set for 30 September and the final on 2 October.
The line-up looks fenomenal on paper, with reigning champions Veszprem HC joined by two other European clubs, the EHF Champions League men winners, SC Magdeburg, and wild card FC Barcelona, the most decorated team in the competition.
Egyptian powerhouses Zamalek SC and Al-Ahly will also line up at the start, as well as the continental champions of the other Confederations: debutants Sharjah SC from the United Arab Emirates, Handebol Taubate from Brazil, Sydney Uni from Australia and California Eagles from the United States of America.
Algeria will host two major women’s competitions this month in the seaside resort of Oran. First, the 2025 CAHB African Women’s Junior Championship takes place from 6 to 13 September, welcoming teams from Angola, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, DR Congo, Egypt, Guinea, Kenya, Mali, Réunion, Tunisia, and Zambia. This tournament also serves as the continental phase of the IHF Trophy Africa Women.
From 14 to 21 September, Oran again becomes the stage for the 2025 CAHB African Women’s Youth Championship. Algeria, Egypt, DR Congo, Tunisia, Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Zambia, Kenya, Guinea, and Madagascar will battle for continental honours and a spot in future world events, in an event which also serves as the continental phase of the IHF Trophy Africa Women.
The Zone 1B (East and South Asia) women's youth and junior tournaments of the IHF Trophy Asia will be staged in Suphan Buri, Thailand from 21 to 25 September 2025. The event serves as qualification event for the Continental Phase of the Women's IHF Trophy Asia.
Two younger age category events will also take place in the South and Central America, with the continental competitions for the Under-14 category for boys and girls and the Under-16 category for both genders taking place in Paraguay. First, the Under-14 teams will take on the court between 15 and 21 September, while the Under-16 teams face off between 22 and 28 September.
The inaugural edition of the Asian Men’s U-17 Handball Championship will be held in Amman, Jordan, between 15 and 25 September, serving as a qualification for the inaugural IHF Men’s Under-17 World Championship, which will take place in October in Casablanca, Morocco.
14 teams – Bahrain, the Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong – China, India, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Jordan, Maldives, Kuwait, Qatar, the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Uzbekistan - will take on the court fighting for a medal, with the winner qualifying for the World Championship.
Europe’s premier club competitions begin anew in September. The EHF Champions League Women throws off on 6 September, with 16 teams pursuing continental glory. The Machineseeker EHF Champions League starts on 10 September, also featuring 16 elite clubs. The format remained the same – with two groups of eight teams each in the preliminary round, where the top two clubs in each group progress to the quarter-finals, while teams ranked three to six head to the play-offs.
Another club competition seeing 10 teams battle for the trophy will take place in Kuwait, between 12 and 22 September, when the 40th edition of the Arab Club Championship will take place. Three teams from Kuwait and Syria each, two teams from Qatar and one team from the Islamic Republic of Iran and Egypt each are set to battle for the title.
Moving over to the beach, he Maldives is set to host the inaugural Commonwealth Beach Handball Championship from 18th to 23rd September 2025. For the first time on its sun-kissed beaches, the Maldives will transform into the sporting hub for beach handball as international teams converge in Kulhudhuffushi. The tournament will welcome teams from across the Commonwealth, with six teams announced so far – hosts Maldives, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka.
