Dimitroulias named head coach of the Saudi Arabia men's national team
10 Oct. 2025

The Saudi Arabia Handball Federation (SAHF) has named Greek coach Dimitris Dimitroulias as the new head coach of the Saudi Arabia men’s national team, succeeding Isidoro Martinez.
The appointment comes as the “Green Falcons” gear up for a busy period, with major international targets ahead.
First, Dimitroulias will lead his new side between 7 and 21 November at the Islamic Solidarity Games in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, following up with the 2026 AHF Asian Men’s Championship in Kuwait in January 2026, which serves as a qualifier for the 2027 IHF Men’s World Championship.
Dimitroulias brings to his new position a wealth of experience not only from his native Greece, where he won the EHF European Cup twice, the Greek league five times, and the Greek Cup twice, but also from a highly successful tenure in Saudi Arabia.
In his career, the Greek coach has previously led Greek sides Diomidis Argous, the women's team of PAOK Thessaloniki and AEK Athens, as well as HC Kaerjeng, in Luxembourg. Over the past three years, he steered Saudi side Khaleej Club to 16 domestic and international titles, including the one in the AHF Men's Club League Championship in 2024, while finishing as runners-up in 2025.
The Greek coach also led his team to three appearances at the IHF Men’s Club World Championship, finishing sixth in 2022 and 2023 and fifth in 2024, providing his team the chance of the second-best finish for a Saudi team in the competition, after Al Wehda finished fourth in 2019.
Saudi Arabia have 10 appearances at the IHF Men’s World Championship, featuring five times in the last six editions, each time heading to the President’s Cup. The best performance in history for the Asian side is the 19th place, where they finished in 2003 and 2013.
