The IHF D-Licence Course, held in Cotonou, Benin, between 1 and 8 August, marked a significant milestone for the ongoing development of handball in the country. The programme demonstrated a robust collaboration aimed at strengthening the sport’s foundation, particularly within the educational sector., as over several days of comprehensive instruction, the course brought together a substantial cohort of physical education trainers—reflecting a serious commitment to expanding handball’s reach among youth in schools.

As in all courses led by IHF CCM Lecturers, the programme saw both practical and theoretical parts. The curriculum mirrored international best practices, covering vital topics such as the roles and responsibilities of coaches, the development of effective teaching methods, the construction of modern training sessions, and the nurturing of young talent. The course also integrated classroom theory with practical field exercises, offering valuable insights into player development, tactical progression, and the fundamental principles of handball.
The course atmosphere was characterised by enthusiasm, active participation, and a shared eagerness to learn. The outstanding local organization, combined with the dynamic and interactive approach led by the IHF lecturer Nahla Boudhina and local coaches, created an inspiring and motivational environment.
A key feature of this success was the invaluable support provided by assistant instructor Basile Nouatin, who is not only a recognized multiplier but also the current National Technical Director of the Benin Handball Federation. His expertise and involvement in the course considerably enriched the experience for all participants.
The initiative succeeded in raising awareness while also equipping participants with essential knowledge and tools to support handball’s growth at the grassroots level.
