Six teams to battle for the title at the 2024 NACHC Men's North America and the Caribbean Championship

Six teams will line up at the start of the 2024 NACHC Men's North America and the Caribbean Championship, the fourth edition of the continental competition and only the second one to have six teams at the start, after the 2018 edition.

The competition will be even more important as the winners are ensured a place at the 2025 IHF Men’s World Championship, where 18 teams are already qualified and more will secure their spot in the next week.

For the fourth time, Mexico will be the hosts, and they will try to improve their final standings, as they have finished fourth in each of the previous three editions, with the USA, Greenland and Cuba being the previous champions.

The reigning champions are the United States of America, which have finished on the podium twice in the three editions played so far, with the American side having big ambitions once again here, as they try to confirm their status as the best team in the NACHC.

Nevertheless, the challenge will be big, with both Greenland and Cuba aiming to return to the world handball flagship competition, with two other sides, Puerto Rico and Canada, completing the six-team line-up.

While the USA secured their maiden win at the IHF World Championship at Poland/Sweden 2023, Greenland have last featured at Germany 2007, while Cuba, the title holders at the IHF Men’s Emerging Nations Championship, have not qualified for the IHF Men’s World Championship since 2009.

The competition is due to be played in a round-robin format in Ciudad de Mexico, with all sides playing against each other between 6 and 11 May. The top two sides at the end of the group phase will fight for the medal, while the third and the fourth-placed sides are featuring in the bronze medal match, with the last matches being scheduled on 12 May.
