South East Asian beach champs ready for action
14 Nov. 2022
Nine teams from five nations across South East Asia playing a total of 26 games will be competing this week in Bangkok, Thailand at the 2022 South East Asia Handball Federation (SEAHAF) Men’s and Women’s Beach Handball Championships.
All games will be played at the Bangkok Campus of the Thailand National Sports University from Tuesday 15 to Saturday 19 November.
In the women’s competition, a total of 12 games will be played with Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and Vietnam competing in a round-robin tournament. Every team are set to play each other twice and the team with the most points at the end will be crowned winners.
The men’s competition, also featuring 14 games, sees the host nation enter two teams, along with competing nations including Philippines, Singapore and Indonesia. The five teams will play in an initial round-robin group, with the top four teams then playing in semifinals and ultimately in the medal matches.
Last June, Thailand’s women finished 10th and Vietnam’s women’s ranked 13th at the 2022 IHF Women’s Beach Handball World Championships.Â
The two teams also finished in the top two positions of the Asian Women’s Beach Handball Championships in Bangkok with Vietnam taking the honours.
In March, Philippines men finished fifth in the Asian Men’s Beach Handball Championship.Â
Running in parallel with the championships will be an Asian Handball Federation (AHF) beach handball referee course.
