Team Info
Chile have been a team which has frequently appeared at the IHF Women’s Junior World Championship in the past few editions, North Macedonia 2024 being their fourth consecutive edition which they take part in. However, the South American side has never made it into the top-10, finishing 22nd in 2016, 20th in 2018 and 27th at Slovenia 2022.
Now, Chile are back and are looking to make the main round for the first time in history, but they will have some serious opponents in Group B at North Macedonia 2024, where they are underdogs in all three matches, against Switzerland, Egypt and Tunisia, needing at least two wins to progress. However, in their three previous appearances, Chile have won four matches combined, with one win in 2016, one win in 2018 and two wins in 2022.
Nevertheless, Chile will try to improve in this competition, after finishing third at the 2023 South and Central American Women's Junior Handball Championship, where they secured the bronze medal.
Back in November 2023, they finished second in the preliminary round, with wins over Peru (41:22) and Guatemala (34:16), and were close to deliver a huge shock against Brazil, where their comeback attempt fell short at the last hurdle, conceding a 27:28 loss.
They stood little chance against continental champions Argentina, 20:29, in the semi-finals, but bounced back in the bronze medal match, clinching a 26:23 win against Uruguay, which saw them qualify for the fourth time in a row at the IHF Women’s Junior World Championship.
