Quotes of the Day – Day 4
15 Jul. 2016

Martine WELFLER (NOR)
“I don't even know what to say,” said Welfler after their victory against Hungary in the Main Round.
“Hungary's a really good team and almost every time we meet them we lose if there's penalties so it's amazing – at the end we were just saying to our goalkeeper ‘we love you’, she’s amazing.
“We don't know how far we can go but if we want to go far we need to continue to do what we were doing in the second half.
“When we met Brazil yesterday we were pretty angry, angry after that defeat to Poland and even though we lost against them we played a pretty good match.
“I think we should keep that memory,” she continued. “We know we are a better team and can win on a really good day.”
Andras NAGY (HUN)
“I got a kiss from my girlfriend Dora at the end,” said Nagy when asked who he climbed into the tribunes to meet after their win against Brazil on penalties. “She congratulated us and I’m very happy now.”
“We tried some variation on our shots for that kind of goalkeeping - to get close to him, to keep a distance from him, but I was the only one who missed so maybe I chose the stupidest one ever (laughs).
“But my teammates did very, very well and I’m proud of my whole team.
“This result means nothing if we don’t get four points in our next two games,” said Nagy in advance of their matches against Ukraine later today, and Qatar tomorrow. “We need two more wins to be in the best four of the world championship and to move onto the next step on this road.”
Johnathan STOCK (AUS)
“It felt like everything stopped,” he said when he caught the ball in Egypt’s last attack in the second period in Australia’s 2-0 win.
“I thought, when is the buzzer going to go? Can I hold it long enough? How long can I hold it for and then bang it just went.
“That rush when the buzzer goes and you’ve got them down. It’s the best; it couldn’t have worked out better.”
Usama Mohmmed AL-KABSI (OMA)
“We concentrated a lot on our jumping and the goalkeeper and were very focussed on scoring,” he said after their win against USA on penalties.
“We are very pleased to see the USA playing in the beach handball world championships and with such a big team they will only do better and better.
“Beach handball continues to grow, this world championship is getting better and we hope to see it in the Olympic Games one day.
“All the teams have their own styles but because beach handball is a very spectacular game, every one of them has a spectacular style.”
Carolina ROSSI (ARG)
“I think we were both nervous and focused, I don’t think we played a great match,” she said after her sides’ 2-0 win over Tunisia in the Consolation Round earlier today.
“We try to learn from all of our games, we are a team that is growing, each makes us think and re-think all the things we do and how to do them better. We keep the feeling from losing those Hungary and Argentina games and we see them again and try to fix what is wrong.
“It’s great to see new teams here. We are at our second world championship, it’s more equal if we can incorporate teams from all over the world, it’s very rich for us, it’s all learning. It’s the same for Tunisia, it’s a really nice experience and it makes you grow a lot.”
Mohsin YAFAI (QAT)
“For us it was a difficult game,” he said after his win against Spain. “Maybe because we didn’t follow Spain so much as they were in another group to us in the first round - we just started to study them yesterday.
“It was a really tough game and we were tired, but we started the first period very well. The next period we were tired and stressed.
“Goalkeeping in beach handball is not about practise it’s by mind I think.
“Yes, you need to be a little bit tall because the sand is very hard to move in, but it’s between you and the player.
“In penalties you only need to know the player and the tactics; how they’re shooting and how they’re moving - his hands.
“It comes by experience and we work well, because of the help and experience of the defence.”
Ivan JURIC (CRO)
“It feels great to beat them,” said Juric after Croatia beat Qatar this evening. “We lost 2-0 to them in a test event so we wanted to win this game and to ensure a better position for the semi-finals.
“It’s always a good experience to play against Brazil (who CRO play tomorrow) and we know they are a good team, they play the very best beach handball and we enjoy playing against them.
“We watched Qatar in other matches and along with Brazil and Spain, with us they are four teams who play the best beach handball and we don’t want to underestimate Hungary as the host team.”
