France win top duel, Russia and Romania clash their opponents
17 Aug. 2012

Four matches, four victories for European teams – this is the balance of the evening session of match day 2 of the IV Women’s Youth World Championship in Montenegro. In Bar, Russia and Romania overran their opponents DR Congo and Kazakhstan, while Denmark had an easy evening against Uruguay in Podgorica. The French girls won the top duel of group C against Czech Republic.
Group B in Bar:
Russia – DR Congo 40:16 (22:9)
The Russian girls, one of the medal contenders in Montenegro, taught a lesson to the team from DR Congo. The Africans were not able to stand the power and the speed of their opponents and expectedly lost their second encounter after their 14:39 against Romania on the opening day. The match was quite open until the intermediate score of 12:8, before the Russians shut up their defence and scored a superb series of 15:1 goals to 27:9 – the unequal match had been decided for a long time. As DR Congo hit the net only seven times after the break, the final margin was a quite comfortable 24 goals for the favourite. Daria Bogdanova was Russian top scorer with six goals, Marie Ndampia scored five times for the Africans.
Kazakhstan – Romania 22:41 (12:24)
Second clear victory for the fast and furious Romanians, who top the table of group B now: The counter-attacks of the Europeans were like needle-pins for Kazakhstan – and like in their opening defeat against host Montenegro the personal situation was their biggest problem. Until the 7:10 the seven field players and one goalkeeper were able to stand the pressure, caused by 16 Romanians - then the energies were gone. Romania easily broke the resistance with a strong defence and a big series of counter-attacks. At the break the winner was clear at 24:12, after Romania had doubled figured at the 20:10 even earlier. Kazakhstan tried everything to reduce the speed of the match, but when the Romanians were in ball possession their fate was sealed. The only goal they did not reach was to finish with a 20 goal difference. Best scorers were Ana Tanasie (Romania, 9 goals) and Zarina (Kazakhstan, 5 goals).
Group C in Podgorica:
Denmark – Uruguay 29:13 (14:8)
Like in their first match against France the “Uru” team was chanceless against their second European opponent. Denmark, Youth Olympics champions in 2010, dominated the game from the first minute, but could not escape until the end of the first half. But right after the 11:8 the Danish express accelerated and overran the Pan Americans by a 9:1 series to 20:9. As their opponent ran out of power, the opening victory became an easy evening for the Danes. Offendahl and Werngreen scored five goals each for the victors, Camilla Barreiro was best Uruguayan shooter with four goals.
Czech Republic – France 18:29 (12:14)
France underlined their ambitions in Montenegro, while the Czechs lacked power in the end of match, which had been on a tight level until minutes 35. After the close halftime lead, France improved in defence and attack, and left their opponent below. As France took their second victory, the Czechs still wait for their first point despite “one and a half” strong performances against top teams. In the very end, when France still had enough power to accelerate, their opponent surrendered completely, who scored only six times after the break. Melissa Agathe (FRA) was top scorer with five goals.
