The fight for the medals starts in Montenegro – preview on quarterfinals and placement round

The eight teams for the quarterfinals of the IV Women’s Youth World Championship in Montenegro are confirmed, now the “do-or-die”-matches will follow in Bar and Podgorica on Thursday evening.
In the coastal town of Bar first Hungary (fourth ranked at the 2011 U17 European championships) face Romania (seventh ranked in Europe) at 18:15 hrs. local time. Hungary had won group A, Romania finished second in their preliminary round group B. At 20:30 hrs local time group B winner and 2011 European champions Russia face defending world champions Sweden (runners-up in group A) in the second quarterfinal.
The spectators in the Montenegro capital Podgorica will first see the only intercontinental encounter of the quarterfinals, when Denmark (European runners-up 2011 and winner of group C) will face Japan (runners-up in group D) at 18:15 hrs local time. At 20:30 hrs local time the second quarterfinal France (runners-up of group C, fifth ranked at the 2011 European championship) will face European bronze medallist and clear winner of group D, Norway.
The victors of those games will proceed to the semifinals, which will be played at Bar on Saturday. The winner of HUN/ROU will face the winner of JPN/DEN, the winner of RUS/SWE will play against the winner of FRA/NOR.
The losers of the quarterfinals will start the 5-8 placement round in Bar, also starting on Saturday.
The remaining placement rounds will start on Thursday and will be finished on Friday.
In the placement round 9-12 the third ranked teams of the preliminary round will compete. In Bar host Montenegro face the Netherlands, in Podgorica Brazil play against Korea (both matches at 16:00 hrs local time). The winners of those encounters face in the 9/10 match on Friday, the losers play for the rankings 11/12. Both matches take place in Podgorica.
Croatia vs. Kazakhstan (in Bar) and Czech Republic vs. Angola (in Podgorica, both at 13:45 hrs local times) are the opening matches of the 13-16 round. The winners of those encounters play for the 13/14 rank on Friday, the losers for 15/16 (both matches in Bar).
The 17-20 placement round starts on Thursday with the matches Paraguay vs. DR Congo (in Bar) and Uruguay vs. Portugal (in Podgorica, both at 11:30 hrs. local time). The winners play fo the 17/18 ranks, the losers for the 19/20 ranks on Friday (both matches in Bar).
