Norway and Japan will play for place 13

Placement matches 13 to 16 in Strumica
Hungary – Norway  24:26, 23:23 (12:12)

They started very well in this tournament, but now they have only one chance left to avoid being ranked last of all 16 eighth-finalists. After Hungary has lost the first match for the places 13 to 16, they will play against France for place fifteen on Saturday. The match between these two European teams was an encounter of two equal competitors. Only in the initial stages of the second half Hungary seemed to be on the winning streak, when they scored five times in a row and built a lead from 12:12 at break up to 17:12 after 40 minutes. But finally it was not enough to win this match. Norway reduced the gap and scored for draw (23:23) in the last second of the match. The penalty shoot-out was a desaster for Hungary, because they only scored once, while Norway hit the target three times in four attempts and will meet Japan in the final placement match for place 13.

Placement matches 13 to 16 in Strumica
Japan – France 32:26 (14:10)

Poor France! In the first match for the places 13 to 16, the French girls lost against Japan with 26:32 and will play against Hungary for the places 15 and 16 in Strumica on Saturday. Just for 18 minutes the match between Japan and France was tight (8:8). But then the Japanese scored five times in a row and built up a pre-decisive lead that was crucial for the rest of the match. France did not recover from this Japanese intermediate sprint and although they did not give up they were not able to reduce the gap completely. Only once Japan had to fear for the victory, because three minutes before the final whistle France came 2 goals close. The moral of the French girls was not rewarded. Now Japan is heading for the Saturday match against Norway for place 13.
