Three teams to battle in the South and Central American Confederation for one ticket for the 2025 IHF Women’s World Championship

The last available place for the South and Central American Conferederation for the 2025 IHF Women’s World Championship will be awarded after the second round of the qualification, which will take place between 24 and 26 April in Palmira, Colombia.

Three teams will be present at the start of the competition, which will be played in a round robin format, in Palmira, Colombia. The hosts, Colombia, Peru and Paraguay are the three sides lining up at the start, with the big prize being the ticket for the 2025 IHF Women’s World Championship in Germany and the Netherlands.

From the three sides, only Paraguay have already qualified for an edition of the IHF Women’s World Championship, with five appearances, as they finished 23rd in 2007, 21st in 2013 and 2017 and 29th in 2021 and 2023.

Paraguay are also the only side of the three which has taken part at the 2024 South and Central American Women’s Handball Championship back in November 2024, where they finished on the fourth place, with two wins and three losses, including a 20:25 loss against Uruguay, which eventually decided the podium.

Colombia and Peru have never featured at the IHF Women’s World Championship, nor have they ever taken part at the South and Central American Women’s Handball Championship, making them underdogs against an experienced Paraguay side.

Three teams from the South and Central American Conferederation have already qualified for the 2025 IHF Women’s World Championship. Brazil, the continental champions, Argentina and Uruguay have already secured their tickets, with Uruguay returning for the first time in the world handball flagship competition since 2011.

After the second round of the qualification for the South and Central American Conferederation is completed on 26 April, 31 of the 32 qualified teams for the 2025 IHF Women’s World Championship will be known, with only one wild card to complete the final line-up.
