Women’s MHC Mediterranean Handball Championships ready in Montenegro

The 18th edition of the Mediterranean Handball Confederation’s (MHC) Women’s Championship is set to throw-off in Podgorica, Montenegro on Monday (17 February).

The event, for U17 players, features 13 national teams competing from 17 to 22 February in the Montenegrin capital – the same host city as the 2024 edition.

The Mediterranean Championship for women under 17 will feature 13 national teams, divided into two initial preliminary groups of seven and six teams respectively.

Group A features Montenegro, Croatia, Slovakia, Tunisia, Italy, Turkiye and Kosovo, while Group B features Serbia, Romania, Spain, Greece, Cyprus and Slovenia.

As per the traditional rules of the MHC, to promote development of handball amongst the younger age categories in its region, each match will be divided into three periods, with each period having 15 minutes. In each period, the team which scores the largest number of goals receives one point. In case of a draw in a period, each team receives 0.5 points. At the end of the game, the winner – the team which has the most points – will be awarded two points in the ranking of the group.

All matches will be played in the ‘Verde Complex’ and the ‘Sports and Cultural Centre’ at the University of Montenegro, with the host nation, coached by Miloš Perović and Bobana Krstović, throwing off their campaign against Kosovo at 0900hrs (local time) on Monday.

All games are being streamed live and free on the Montenegro Handball Federation YouTube channel HERE.
