Uzbekistan men's junior and youth teams triumph at IHF Trophy Zone 3 Asia

The youth and junior teams from Uzbekistan won the competitions in their respective age categories at the Men’s IHF Trophy Zone 3 Asia, which took place from 22 to 26 June 2024 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Both sides also booked their tickets to the IHF Trophy Continental Phase Asia.
In the youth (U18) competition, the six participating teams were divided into two groups. In Group A, Uzbekistan and Pakistan progressed to the semi-final with four and two points, respectively, leaving Tajikistan (zero points) behind. In Group B, Kazakhstan (four points) and Turkmenistan (two) also went through, finishing above Kyrgyzstan.
In the semi-finals, Uzbekistan took a commanding win over Turkmenistan, 51:23, while Kazakhstan proved too strong for Pakistan, 35:22. Turkmenistan finished third after winning a bronze-medal match against Pakistan (28:24), and in a high-scoring final encounter, Uzbekistan defeated home side Kazakhstan, 50:41.
The junior (U20) event had a different format, as five participants played a round-robin tournament. Uzbekistan won all their four matches and secured the top position with a maximum of eight points. In particular, the Uzbeks won a crucial battle against Kazakhstan, 38:34.
The home team became the runners-up with a tally of six points, while Pakistan earned bronze with four points. Turkmenistan claimed two points, and Tajikistan lost all their matches to finish fifth.
