Two European sides make strides towards semi-finals at Morocco 2026

Germany and Russia made another step towards securing a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 IHF Women’s Under-16 World Championship, with clear wins against Tunisia and Argentina respectively.

GROUP B
Tunisia vs Germany 26:38 (13:20)

GROUP D
Russia vs Argentina 41:21 (20:12)

  • Germany and Russia are the first teams to secure two wins in a row at the 2026 IHF Women’s Under-16 World Championship, having led from start to finish in their matches against Tunisia and Argentina

  • Germany used a 12:2 run midway in the first half to pull away and open a 11-goal lead, 18:7, against the African side, as right wing Nora Lueg scored nine goals in the first half

  • Germany still have to play against Uzbekistan, but with their second win in as many matches, they are virtually through to the semi-finals, where only the group winners qualify

  • Tunisia still have a chance to finish second in the group and end up in the top-10, provided they beat Mexico in the last match day

  • Russia also won their second match in a row, after their 41:29 win against Egypt, having conceded the lead only for a brief moment in the start of the match, to secure their second double-digit win in the competition and the second match in a row where they score 40+ goals

  • Elizaveta Sapozhnikova was Russia’s best scorer, with nine goals, while Argentina's Oriana Repetto Gale had five goals

  • The European side will now face Switzerland in the last matchday of the preliminary round, a match which will likely provide the qualified team for the semi-finals
