Two Danish sides, reigning champions Györ and unbeaten Metz make it to the EHF FINAL4

Three of the last season's four EHF FINAL4 participants in the EHF Champions League Women will be returning to Budapest this season, after securing their places after winning their quarter-finals doubleheaders on aggregate. Another side, Odense Håndbold, will make their debut, thanks to their dramatic win against FTC-Rail Cargo Hungaria.

Odense led throughout the first leg of the quarter-finals, but eventually saw themselves sharing the spoils with the Hungarian side, 27:27, which had previously not won a single quarter-final match on their home court. That looked about to change, when FTC had a two-goal lead with 15 minutes to go in the second leg, but Odense delivered a pitch perfect ending of the match, with goalkeeper Althea Reinhardt shining on the court, eventually taking a 25:24 win, to punch their ticket to the EHF FINAL4, after three eliminations in the quarter-finals.

Reigning champions Györi Audi ETO KC delivered two excellent defensive performances in the rematch of last season's final against HB Ludwigsburg, clinching a 54:46 aggregate win, the clearest between the four quarter-finals. The Hungarian powerhouse, winners of six titles, have now qualified for the 10th time in 11 editions of the EHF FINAL4, where they have won all their six trophies.

Györ have won 14 matches from the 16 played so far this season and, provided they win the title, will have their best season in history in the EHF Champions League Women in terms of matches won, as they are already the team with the largest number of wins - 231 - and the largest number of goals scored.

In the French derby between Metz Handball and Brest Bretagne Handball, the champions delivered two wins, 29:26 and 33:32, clinching their third EHF FINAL4 berth in four seasons. Metz are also the only unbeaten side in the competition so far, with 15 wins and a single draw, in the middle of their largest unbeaten streak in the competition. However, Metz have not reached the final so far and have won a single match in six tries in their previous three appearances.

The most dramatic quarter-final was the one between Team Esbjerg and CSM București. The Romanian and the Danish sides had already met twice in the quarter-finals in the past three seasons, where Esbjerg eliminated CSM, and this was the case here too, despite Esbjerg conceding a 29:30 loss in the first leg, in Romania.

The second leg was a true roller-coaster, with CSM leading the way with 20 minutes to go, 17:18, but since that moment, CSM could only muster four more goals, conceding a 22:26 loss. The all-time top scorer of the EHF Champions League Women, Cristina Neagu, had four goals in this match, finishing her career with 1232 goals, as the four-time IHF Female Player of the Year will retired at the end of the season.

The reigning IHF Female Player of the Year, Henny Reistad, had 12 goals in the first leg and eight in the second one, being the top goal scorer of the season, with 139 goals, with only two players in history - Natalia Morskova (150 goals in 1996/97) and Reistad herself in 2022/23 (142 goals) scoring so much in a single season.

The EHF FINAL4 will take place in the MVM Dome in Budapest on 31 May and 1 June. The draw for the two semi-finals took place on Monday, 28 April, in Vienna, and paired Györi Audi ETO KC and Team Esbjerg in one semi-final, with the other semi-final seeing Metz Handball take on Odense Håndbold.
