Schedule for the 2025 IHF Men’s and Women’s Youth (U17) Beach Handball World Championships released

Tunisia will host the 2025 IHF Men’s and Women’s Youth (U17) Beach Handball World Championships, a competition whose schedule has now been revealed, with 16 teams fighting for the trophy in the men's competition and 16 teams vying for the coveted title in the women's competition.

The third edition of the younger age event returns to Africa for the second time and is provisionally set to be played from 17 to 22 June 2025 in Hammamet, a city in the north-east of the country, around 65km south-east of capital city Tunis.

The draw for the preliminary round of the competition took place on 10 April.

In the women's competition, the reigning champions Spain, who have appeared in both the 2017 and 2022 editions were draw into group D, where they will face 2018 Youth Olympic Games silver medallists Croatia along with Uruguay and Bulgaria.

Ever-presents Thailand were drawn into group A where they will face France, Brazil and Tanzania, while silver medallists in both editions so far, Netherlands, were drawn into group B where they will face neighbours Germany as well as  People's Republic of China and Kenya.

Tunisia chose to be in group C where they will face the power of Hungary, who won gold in 2017, finished fourth in 2022 and won bronze at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games. Joining them are debutants Mexico and Senegal.

In the men's competition, reigning champions Croatia did not qualify for the 2025 edition, with Greece 2022 silver medallists Brazil the highest-ranked side from last time out in the draw. They were drawn into group D, which can also be called a mini South American group as they will face ever-presents Argentina, who won bronze in 2017 and again at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, plus Uruguay. Senegal, one of nine men’s debutant teams, will be hoping to break the continental powerhouses in the group.

Group A sees 2022 bronze medallists Iran take on 2017 gold medallists and ever-presents, Spain – who also won the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, plus debutants Oman and Puerto Rico. African sides Tanzania and Kenya will take on fellow debutants Hungary, plus Germany in group B.

Finally, Tunisia chose to be placed in group C, where they will face Thailand, alongside debutants Mexico and the Oceania side, Cook Islands.

With the teams knowing their opponents, the schedule for the two competitions have been released, as both competitions will start on 17 June. With four courts available in Hammamet, all matches are scheduled at 16:00 and 17:40 local time (for the women's competition), while the men's matches are due to start at 16:50 and 17:40 local time.

The preliminary round will be concluded one day later, when all sides play two matches each. The main round will be played on 19 and 20 June, while the knockout phase starts on 21 June. The medal matches are scheduled for 22 June, with the women's final scheduled for 17:00 local time and the men's final at 18:00 local time.

The 2025 IHF Men’s and Women’s Youth Beach Handball World Championships is the third edition of the event, following its 2017 debut in Flic-en-Flac, Mauritius (U17) won by Spain (men) and Hungary (women) and the second edition in 2022 played in Heraklion, Greece (U18) with Croatia (men) and Spain (women) taking the titles.
