IHF Coaching Courses provide unparalleled knowledge on two continents

The last month saw three installments of the Coaches Courses offered by the International Handball Federation taking place on two continents, with participants in Kuwait, Qatar and Tunisia taking part in the programme, which increases the quality of the coaches in all areas and contribute to improve the quality of our sport in the future.

36 male and two female coaches took part in the first IHF C Licence course in Kuwait. The course was led by Dr. Khaled Alsharji, IHF CCM Lecturer, and contained several intermediate to advanced handball and sport science topics such as: tactical and technical elements of handball, talent identification in handball, priciple of training and periodization of strength training for youth and junior handball players, sport psychology and leadership skills for handball coaches or trends in modern handball.

In each day of the course which took place between 21 and 29 September in Kuwait, five to seven of the participants led a handball session to deliver their abilities in coaching, with several topics being breached under the supervision of Dr. Khaled Alsharji.

As with all IHF coaching courses, the programme included both theoretical and practical components, with the participants assessed to determine whether or not they achieved the qualification. At the end of the course, all the participants received their qualification.

Another course led by Dr. Khaled Alsharji took place in Qatar, where 40 coaches took part in the IHF C Licence course which took place between 6 and 14 September. Each day was divided into two sessions, starting from basic handball skills, how to describe a tactical handball unit, going to strength training in youth and junior age categories, as well as designing a coaching philoshophy and the evolution of the game, the modern handball game.

All the 40 participants received their qualification at the end of the Coaching Course in Qatar.

Another Coaching Course for IHF B and IHF C Licences took place between 19 to 27 September 2024, in Mahdia, Tunisia, on the outskirts of the 2024 CAHB African Men’s Youth Handball Championship.

Led by IHF CCM Lecturer Boubekeur Zermani, the course saw 36 male and five female coaches attending, with all of them successfully securing their certificates at the end of the Coaching Course. Each day of the course was divided into two parts: the first one was a theoretical one, followed shortly by a practical session, while the second one all about practice.

Emphasis was put once again on both the practical and the theoretical part of handball, with Zermani reporting that the coaching students were all paying attention and striving to deliver their best selves during the sessions.
