17 Nov. 2025
The 2025 South and Central American Women's Youth Handball Championship will throw off on Monday, 17 November, in Asuncion, Paraguay, with nine teams at the start.
This competition will be a qualification event for the next year’s 2026 IHF Women’s Youth World Championship, with the top four teams making their way to the world handball flagship competition.
Moreover, the Continental Phase of the IHF Trophy Women – Youth for the South and Central American Confederation, will be played in conjunction with the competition, with four teams lined up at the start.
The nine participating teams have been divided into three groups of three teams each, with the winner of each group, plus the best second-placed side progressing to the semi-finals, in turn securing their tickets for the 2026 IHF Women’s Youth World Championship.
In Group A, favourites Brazil will take on Perú and Costa Rica, while another team gunning for the title, Argentina, feature in Group B, alongside Venezuela and Guatemala. In Group C, arguably the most balanced one, hosts Paraguay will face Chile and Uruguay.
The format sees the groups played in a round-robin format, as the group winners, plus the best second-placed side will progress to the next phase. Then, the best group winners will face either the best second-placed side or the third-best group winner, if the qualified second-placed team comes from the same group as the best group winner, with the other sides colliding for a place in the final.
The four participating teams in the IHF Trophy Women are Perú, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Venezuela.
The competition will see its winner crowned on Friday, 21 November.
