First edition of the Wheelchair Handball Bundesliga to take place in Hanover

As handball should be a sport for everyone, the IHF started its wheelchair handball activities to make handball accessible to people with physical disabilities. The goal for the coming years is to develop wheelchair handball all over the world for men and women on regional, continental, and international level and to bring wheelchair handball to the Paralympic Games.
Wheelchair handball has been getting more and more popular throughout the world, as proven in the past years, when the number of participating teams at the IHF Wheelchair Handball World Championship grew to eight in the second edition of the competition, hosted by Egypt, in September 2024.
The development has been getting bigger and bigger throughout all the continents at a domestic level and now, the maiden edition of the Rollstuhlhandball Bundesliga â the Wheelchair Handball Bundesliga â will take place in Hanover, Germany, with seven teams at the start.
Six teams from Germany and one from the Netherlands will take part in the competition which is due to take place during a single day, on Saturday, 22 February, in the two ttwo sports halls of the Leonore-Goldschmidt-Schule, in Hanover, with the first match starting at 10:40 CET and the final being scheduled for 17:55 CET.
Six teams from Germany - ThSV Eisenach e.V., TuS Eicklingen e.V., TSV Wefensleben 1990 e.V Freiwurf Hamburg e.V., TuS FĂŒrstenfeldbruck, Rollstuhl-Sportgemeinschaft Hannoverâ94 e.V. â will be at the start of the competition, while one team from the Netherlands, CSV Handbal, is also due to take part.
