Egypt secured their fourth title in a row and their ninth in history at the CAHB African Men's Youth Handball Championship, with a five-match winning streak, which saw the powerhouse clinch a 28:25 win in the final against Tunisia.

In the 11 editions of the competition, Egypt failed to win the title only twice – in the inaugural edition in 2000 and in 2016, when they lost the final against Tunisia. Egypt also did the double, having won the 2026 CAHB African Men's Junior Handball Championship one week ago.

14 teams lined up at the start of the competition in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, with two groups of four teams each and two groups of three teams each in the preliminary round. The top two sides in each group progressed to the quarter-finals of the competition which took place between 15 and 22 September.

Egypt were in Group A, where they won against Cameroon (35:17) and Congo (51:21). The second quarter-finalist was Cameroon, after boasting a better goal difference than Congo, after their 35:35 draw.

Morocco won Group C, after wins against Rwanda (33:26) and Libya (32:25), with Rwanda making it to the next phase, after a draw against Libya, 36:36, but with more goals scored in the group phase.

From Group B, Tunisia and Nigeria powered through to the quarter-finals, with the knockout phase picture completed by Guinea and hosts Cote d’Ivoire from Group D.

Egypt and Tunisia retained their status as title favourites after the quarter-finals, where they secured big wins against Nigeria (55:21) and Cameroon (35:18).

The other semi-finalists were Morocco, with a 30:27 win over the hosts and Guinea, which dished a 25:22 win against Rwanda.

The semi-finals were once again lopsided, with Egypt beating Morocco, 44:12, and Tunisia dominating Guinea, 40:22, with the title being disputed between the two powerhouses of the continent, just like in 2024, when Egypt secured a 34:29 win.

This time around, the game was even more balanced than the previous one. Egypt took control early in the match, starting with an 8:3 run, with the gap even reaching six goals, 10:4, but Tunisia managed to weather the storm and enter the break with a three-goal deficit, 13:10.

Yassien Ramadan had seven goals from Egypt, while the champions had 11 players scoring at least one goal, with Abdelmalak Mabrouk saving 11 shots, for a 34% saving efficiency.

Tunisia’s Youssef Boussetta had eight goals, but Egypt dominated the second half and the writing was on the wall even from the 45th minute, when the champions boasted a four-goal lead.

Tunisia tried their mightiest, but eventually conceded the 28:25 loss, as Egypt managed to secure their ninth title in 11 appearances in the competition.

Morocco clinched the bronze medal, with a 18:17 win over Guinea in the bronze medal match.

Algeria’s Djaber Abd Elbari Guettouche was the top scorer of the competition, with 43 goals, three more than Burundi’s Caleb Irishura and eight more than teammate, Hicham Maidi.

The 2026 CAHB African Men's Youth Handball Championship was a qualification event for the 2027 IHF Men’s Youth World Championship, with the top five teams securing their ticket for the world handball flagship competition.

The four semi-finalists – Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and Guinea – were joined by Cameroon, who won the Placement Match 5/6, 32:30, against Nigeria.
