Croatia men get ‘stamp’ of approval for 2025 World Championship success

Croatia Post (Hrvatska Pošta), in co-operation with the Croatian Handball Federation (Hrvatski Rukometni Savez), have released a series of postage stamps in celebration of the silver medal gained by Croatia at the 2025 IHF Men’s World Championship last month.

Dagur Sigurdsson’s side lost the gold medal match in Oslo, Norway to Denmark but won the hearts of their nation – and handball fans around the world – with an emotion-fuelled campaign played mainly at home in Zagreb with long-term, key players including Domagoj Duvnjak, Igor Karacic and Ivan Pesic all retiring from international duty.

This emotion and celebration is reflected in a set of three stamps forming the iconic photograph – taken by Kolektiff photographer Jozo Cabraja, who also works for the IHF – of the team and coaching staff on court in Oslo having just picked up their medals. The set was created by the Zagreb-based designer, Alenka Lalic.

Each stamp has a nominal value of EUR 1.70, with a total of 20,000 sets printed, to go with the stamps, a special, collectible ‘First-Day Cover (FDC)’, featuring the postmark of 6 March 2025 – the date the stamps went on sale – has also been released.

The special 2025 IHF Men’s World Championship stamps are on sale at post offices across Croatia and online globally at www.epostshop.hr. The FDC is HERE and the three stamp set is HERE.

The success in 2025 is not the first time that Croatian handball has featured on stamps in the European country, with the 2003 IHF Men’s World Championship-winning side commemorated, the 2009 IHF Men’s World Championship hosted by Croatia marked and debut IHF Men’s World Championship appearance as an independent nation at Iceland 1995 also recognised. These can also be bought online too at Croatia Post, HERE.

In 2021, the IHF itself was also commemorated with a stamp, Swiss Post commemorating its 75th Anniversary and over the years, around the world, countries have promoted the sport through stamps in a variety of different designs.
