Germany have secured the maiden title at the IHF Women’s Under-16 World Championship, with their fifth win in as many matches in Agadir, XX:XX, in the final against Hungary.
FINAL
Hungary vs Germany 32:37 (15:17)
- Germany have now secured titles in the men’s Under-17 and women’s Under-16 World Championships, having previously won the inaugural edition of the men’s competition in Morocco last year
- Germany’s maiden two-goal lead came in the 24th minute, when a 3:0 run spurred by two goals from line player Mariella Koumtoudji Tchatat saw the European champions open a 14:12 lead
- Romy Sieber spearheaded Germany’s challenge in the final, with eight goals and six assists, providing her best outing in the competition so far
- Germany’s 4:1 run in the opening minutes of the second half proved too much for Hungary, which had no chances in attack, as Germany’s defence ramped up the pressure and forced them to turn the ball over
- Hungary’s Hanna Molnár scored nine goals, but could not avoid her team’s loss, with the silver medallists only coming close in the 49th minute, when they cut the gap to only two goals
- Germany have now completed the double in less than five months, having also won the final against Hungary at the W16 EHF European Open, 29:18
- The European side is the reigning champion at the IHF Women's Junior World Championship, the IHF Men's Youth World Championship, the IHF Men's Under-17 World Championship and now in the IHF Women's Under-16 World Championship
