Brazil make another strong comeback to stun Sweden

Just like in their previous match against Czechia, Brazil produced another impressive comeback, this time against Sweden, finishing top of Group G with three wins from as many games. Both sides will now travel to Dortmund for the main round, but the South Americans will carry four points into the next stage, while Sweden take two.

Sweden vs Brazil 27:31 (16:15)

Early goals from Linn Blohm and Nathalie Hagman gave Sweden a 2:0 lead, and the Nordic team maintained their advantage for much of the first half. Blohm added two more goals in the opening 10 minutes, while Emma Lindqvist struck twice to extend Sweden’s lead to 7:3.

As in their previous match against Czechia on Saturday, Brazil struggled to find their rhythm during the first half. Clara Lerby contributed strongly for Sweden, who led by four goals several times before the break, last at 15:11 with four minutes remaining. However, they suffered a major setback when Anna Lagerquist was forced to leave the court due to injury.

Brazil suddenly burst into life, producing a 3:0 run powered by two goals from Mariana Fernandes. Lerby added her sixth goal from a fast break, but Gabriela Bitolo scored just before the half-time whistle to narrow the gap to one (15:16).

While Sweden aimed to adjust their game after the restart, it was Brazil who picked up where they left off, taking their first lead at 17:16. The turnaround gave them new momentum, and by the 44th minute, Cristiano Silva’s team held a 22:20 advantage, prompting Tomas Axnér to call a timeout.

Sweden switched to a 7-vs-6 attacking formation, but it failed to yield results, disrupting their offensive rhythm. Although the Scandinavians managed to draw level several times, Brazil repeatedly pulled ahead. hummel Player of the Match, Mariana Fernandes, finished as top scorer with six goals, while Bruna de Paula added six assists and five goals as the South Americans held firm in the closing minutes to secure a four-goal win.
