Eusébio and Talaat Abdo Abbas seal MVP awards at Egypt 2024

After 24 fantastic matches, the 3rd edition of the IHF Wheelchair Handball World Championship has concluded in the Dr Hassan Moustafa Hall in 6 of October, Egypt, with the win of the hosts, Egypt, which delivered a flawless performance in the final against the United States of America, sealing the gold medal in straight sets, 6:1 and 12:6.
Brazil finished on the third place, with a 2:0 win over France, sealing their second medal in the history of the competition, while Japan finished fifth, Chile sixth, Portugal seventh and India eighth.
Following the conclusion of the competition, three individual awards have been granted, representing the best scorer of the 3rd IHF Wheelchair Handball World Championship, the male Most Valuable Player and the female Most Valuable Player of the competition.
The latter award has been sealed by Brazil’s Denise Eusébio, who made her debut in this edition of the world handball flagship competition. Eusébio was also the best female scorer, with 10 points in six matches, which saw her finish in the top-25 scorers at Egypt 2024.
Both the top scorer award and the male Most Valuable Player award were sealed by Egypt’s Magdy Talaat Abdo Abbas. Egypt’s star had 57 points before the start of the final against the United States of America, but he scored 15 of his side’s 18 points, to leapfrog Japan’s Shinnosuke Morooka, who had 71 points. The podium was completed by Portugal’s Ricardo Queiros, who had 57 points.
Talaat Abdo Abbas, who was also one of Egypt’s best players and the top scorer at the inaugural edition of the IHF Wheelchair Handball World Championship, was nothing short of outstanding, having scored 73% of his team’s points, but also saving 10 of the 24 shots he faced as a goalkeeper, for a 42% saving efficiency.
