Team Info
The Spanish team have played 11 times at the Women’s Junior World Championship, but they have never won a medal, with the fourth place at Hungary 2001 still being their most successful result in history.
However, their last participation at the tournament dates back to 2018, as the 2020 tournament was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and then Spain failed to qualify for Slovenia 2022. In fact, Spain also missed two Women's 19 EHF EURO tournaments in 2021 and 2023, so the recent years have not been easy for them.
But "Las Guerreras Junior" should be given a credit for securing a berth at North Macedonia 2024. Last summer, they secured a W19 EHF Championship title in Lithuania, and in November, they triumphed at the European qualification tournament where they beat Serbia, Faroe Islands, Croatia and Italy.
Head coach Joaquin Rocamora is also at the helm of ATTICGO Bm Elche, who have recently won the EHF European Cup Women. Left wings Maria Carrillo and Marta Cuenca, line player Noelia Solla play for the same club, and they all hope to finish the season on a high also at the national team.
Other important players, such as left back Carmen Arroyo and line player Lyndie Tchaptchet, represent Super Amara Bera Bera, who won the Spanish league this season after beating Elche in the final series. So Rocamora has a competitive squad at his disposal, and his players boast enough confidence to hope for a successful World Championship.
Key players: Lyndie Tchaptchet (line player), Maria Carrillo (left wing), Carmen Arroyo (centre back)
