Tunisia and Brazil are the first teams to secure their places in the Placement Matches 17-20 and, subsequently, the President’s Cup final, after winning their matches against Kazakhstan and Serbia respectively.

Tunisia secured the first place in this President’s Cup group with a narrow 29:26 win against Kazakhstan, as the Asian side really kept their opponents in check throughout the match.

Tunisia did lead by seven goals, 14:7, close to the break, and were looking like clear winners, but Kazakhstan bounced back, with the stats for the two teams being close.

However, Player of the Match, Nour Ouni, shined for Tunisia, scoring 13 goals, improving her overall tally in the competition to 32 goals, as she constantly outplayed the Kazakhstan defence, adding six assists to her goals in the match, basically contributing directly to 19 of Tunisia’s 29 goals.

Kazakhstan did come back and tied the score, 22:22, with nine minutes left, but did not have enough in the tank to clinch the win, which would have seen them feature in the battle for the President’s Cup.

But Tunisia eventually clinched the win and are heading to the Placement Matches 17-20, while Kazakhstan are due to feature for the Placement Matches 21-24.

Canada ensured a better finish compared to the previous edition, when they ended up 31st, with their maiden win of the competition, 22:20 against Uruguay, one which sends them to the Placement Matches 25-28.

It was far from an easy one against the South American side, which led by two goals with eight minutes to go, 19:17, but Canada produced an excellent defensive display, to clinch a 22:20 win, as Azalée Morissette-Davies was once again their top scorer, with six goals, adding six assists.

Brazil secured the first place in Group IV of the President’s Cup and progressed to the Placement Matches 17-20, with a chance to secure the trophy at the end of the competition, with a dominating win against Serbia.

The only moment when the match was close was in the opening minutes, when Serbia managed to tie the score, 2:2, after four minutes. After three minutes when no team scored, Brazil went on a 6:1 run, spurred by Gabriela Rios Gonçalves A Medeiros.

The real star for Brazil was goalkeeper Camila Wyden, who had 16 saves for a 48% saving efficiency, totally dominating in the battle with the Serbia’s attackers. But in the end, it was Serbia’s attacking efficiency – 29% - which was their undoing.

By the 40th minute, Brazil, who will meet Portugal in the next match, were up 13 goals, 21:8. With the game done and dusted, Brazil’s coach started rotating his players and Serbia started coming back, but could only limit the damage, conceding a 28:20 loss, which sent them to the Placement Matches 21-24.

Angola secured their maiden win of the competition in the African derby against Algeria, thanks to a strong start of the match, which saw them open a 7:0 lead. Goalkeeper Analia Bizerra saved 12 shots, for a 41% saving efficiency to help her side frustrate Algeria, which tried to come back, but eventually failed, conceding a 18:31 loss.
