Egypt down Chinese Taipei for second victory

Egypt took their second win at the 2019 IHF Men’s Youth World Championship with a clear result in their favour versus Chinese Taipei, thereby moving up to four points alongside France and Sweden. Chinese Taipei had the lead through the first 15 minutes before Egypt claimed the upper hand and cruised to a decisive victory.

GROUP B
Egypt vs Chinese Taipei 36:25 (18:15)

Chinese Taipei shocked the African champions and had a much stronger start to the match, creating an early lead at 5:2 five minutes into the game. The Asian team held their advantage steady through until the end of the first quarter, when Egypt fought back to level at 9:9.

From that point on, Egypt were in firm command. The half-time distance of three goals seemed to indicate the possibility of a comeback for Chinese Taipei, but the African team’s superior strength was greater than the score line indicated.

Egypt could afford to rotate through their entire squad, with every court player contributing at least one goal and both keepers having their turn in goal. When Abdelrahman Mohamed Homayed left the court with five minutes remaining, he had recorded nine saves. His counterpart at the other end of the court, Chinese Taipei’s Po-Hsiang Chuang, also tallied nine saves – but faced far more shots than the Egypt defence allowed at their end.

After the three-goal distance at the break, Chinese Taipei stayed in touch at 25:20 with 15 minutes remaining. However, there was always a sense that Egypt were in control and they steadily increased their advantage from that point through to the final whistle.

The top scorer of the match was Chinese Taipei’s Yu-Chen Hsu, with seven goals. For Egypt, Youssef Alaaeldin Ahmed top scored with six, while Omar Ahmed Hamdy Lotfy tallied five goals from five attempts.
