Serbia are main round bound after blow-out win against Cameroon

Serbia are the second team in Group B to clinch their main round spot as they beat Cameroon tonight in Llíria. It was a start-to-finish win for the Serbia team as they already led comfortably by double digits at half-time.

GROUP B
Serbia vs Cameroon: 43:18 (19:9)

Serbia opened the game with three goals while Cameroon had to wait for five minutes to finally get through Serbia’s defence. The African side got themselves into the game over the following minutes, cutting the lead down to one goal. With two successful fastbreaks by Aleksandra Stamenic, Serbia pulled away again.

In the further course of the first half, Serbia played out their offensive strengths. With a shooting efficiency over 70% at half-time and 80 % in 7m shots, they pulled away from Cameroon minute by minute. The African representatives did have their moments but failed to turn their efforts into goals.

With the half-time buzzer, Cameroon scored to make it 19:9 for Serbia.

Even if Cameroon had thought that they would have a slight chance for a comeback – three goals to open the second half for Serbia crushed these hopes. With Serbia leading comfortably, coach Uros Bregar was able to let his whole squad play and give key players some rest for upcoming challenges.

In the end, the result was more than clear in favour of Serbia: 34:18.

Serbia were led by Marija and Jelena Agbaba with six and seven goals, while Cameroon had their strongest shooter in Karichma Kaltoume Ekoh with seven goals.

Cameroon will play against Poland on Tuesday, 7 December 2021 at 18:00 CET – a game in which both teams will be eager to claim their first win at the 25th IHF Women`s World Championship. Serbia and RHF will battle later that day at 20:30 CET and fight for the top of Group B and important points to take into to the next round.
