Team Info
Since their debut in the IHF Women's U20 World Championship in 1995, Angola have missed only one edition of the tournament. Now they are going to participate for the 13th time, and after finishing sixth at Slovenia 2022, which is their best-ever result at this level, the Africans hope to be successful again.
On their continent, the Angolans have been dominant for decades, having claimed 11 titles of the CAHB African Women's Junior Handball Championship. The last triumph took place in 2023 in Tunisia, where Angola had a flawless tournament, winning all six matches. In the final encounter, they proved too strong for Egypt, snatching a hard-fought 30:26 victory in the extra-time.
Head coach Jose Terca Chuma can rely on a number of talented players who already have an experience of playing at the senior national team, such as Liliane Mario, Elisandra Pedro or Bernadeth Belo. Many of the players are making their breakthrough at Clube Desportivo 1 Agosto, one of the best clubs in Angola.
In Group H, Angola will face two European teams – hosts North Macedonia and Iceland – and the United States of America. If the Africans progress to the main round, they will try to eventually reach the quarter-final and possibly perform even better than two years ago.
