Norway dominate and prove too strong for the Republic of Korea

Reigning champions Norway did not make it to the quarter-final at North Macedonia 2024, but they still are looking at a top ten finish, going to the Placement Matches 9-12, after a 33:22 win over the Republic of Korea.

MAIN ROUND
GROUP II
Republic of Korea vs Norway 22:33 (12:15)

Both sides had lost the chance to progress to the quarter-final, but following this win, Norway finished third in Group II and will go to the Placement Matches 9-12, while the Republic of Korea will feature in the Placement Matches 13-16, hoping to end their three-match losing streak.

Powered by Seoyeon Cha in attack, the Asian champions enjoyed a better start of the game, which resulted in their 6:4 lead after 10 minutes. However, Norway hit back with a 3:0 run and seized the initiative, as right wing Pia Gronstad and centre back Marie Mjos scored some important goals.

The Republic of Korea used all their three goalkeepers in the first half, but none of them had an impact, as they combined for just two saves. It was one of the factors that helped Norway extend their lead to 15:12 at the break, yet the Asian side were still in with a chance.

Norway's Dina Frisendal did not shine in the opening 30 minutes, either, but she rose to prominence after the interval. Her string of saves helped the European side to pull clear, and following a 7:0 run, they established a double-digit lead at 26:16.

With half an hour left, the game was basically decided, but the Norwegians continued to push ahead. Left back Nora Rosenberg became their top scorer, with eight goals from eight attempts, as the Europeans ultimately celebrated a well-deserved 33:22 win.
