Kuwait SC tie record with big win against San Fernando HB

Kuwait SC secured their third win in history at the IHF Men’s Super Globe, spoiling San Fernando HB’s debut in the competition, with a dominating performance, 41:29, with star left back Frankis Carol Marzo playing only in the second half.

Even one appearance in the IHF Men’s Super Globe brings plenty of experience, regardless of the finishing position. This was especially true in Kuwait SC’s case, with the Asian side, the reigning champions at the Arab Handball Championship of Champions, using that experience to secure their maiden win in the preliminary round of the competition.

For 20 minutes, though, San Fernando HB, one of the two debutants in this edition of the IHF Men’s Super Globe, applied serious pressure on Kuwait, despite having the pressure to come from behind throughout the whole first half.

A 5:1 run, spurred by a pair of brothers, Federico and Juan Pablo Fernandez, who finished the match with 13 goals between them, helped San Fernando HB, the first-ever Argentinian side to play at the IHF Men’s Super Globe, tie the game, 12:12, as their aggressive 3-3 defence really hampered Kuwait.

However, after 30 minutes, Kuwait were ahead, 19:16, with their attack firing from all cylinders, as right wing Ali Saleh, who scored 16 goals in a single match in the previous edition, leading the way with six goals.

It went from bad to worse for San Fernando HB, as Kuwait’s star, Frankis Carol Marzo, entered the court in the second half, adding even more spice to an already excellent attack. With a 9:3 run to start the second half, Kuwait became even more dominant, with the main question of the match being how big the gap is going to be, not who will take two crucial two points.

More easy misses, including two penalties and 19 turnovers, one too many for San Fernando, limited any comeback for the Argentinian side and enabled Kuwait SC to deliver an excellent performance from an attacking point of view. The Kuwaiti side tied the record of goals scored in a match at the IHF Men’s Super Globe, 41, set in the last edition against Club Ministros.

With wings Ali Saleh and Mishaal Alharbi combining for 13 goals, Kuwait SC proved that they belong to the IHF Men’s Super Globe with their 41:29 win, but will face a sturdier challenge on Thursday, when they face the group favourite, Füchse Berlin.
