Croatia and Egypt to fight for President's Cup at China 2026

Croatia and Egypt will fight for the President's Cup, after the two sides have won their matches on Thursday, with Croatia taking a 33:32 win against Brazil, after penalties.

Placement Matches 17-20
Egypt v Iceland 33:26 (17:12)
Brazil v Croatia 32:33 a. pen. (13:13; 26:26)

Egypt qualified for the final of the President’s Cup with yet another convincing display. Despite losing against France, Serbia or Sweden, Egypt always stayed close to their opponents and finally the managed to beat a European side, with Iceland being the odd one out.

Step after step, Egypt proved they have the needed maturity at this age level to control a match of this stature and once again the backbone of the win came via their strong defence, as goalkeeper Gihad Sayed shined once again.

Sayed has 76 saves in the competition for a 44% saving efficiency and now she had 19 more saves, for a 54% saving efficiency, constantly frustrating Iceland. With Egypt up 17:12 at the break, Iceland never found the strength to come back and conceded a 26:33 loss, as the African side qualified for the final of the President’s Cup.

It took seven rounds of penalties, but Croatia finally managed to win the match against Brazil, after Lauendy Vitória Da Silva Vitor missed the seventh shot for Brazil and Tara Đelekovčan converted the shot for Croatia. The two sides traded blows, but in the end Croatia were stronger, as Jana Miklic scored eight goals and Antea Cicak added seven more, with the European side now having the chance to follow their senior team, which won the President's Cup at the 2025 IHF Women's World Championship.

Placement Matches 25-28
Paraguay v Guinea 23:13 (11:7)
Türkiye v Tunisia 31:28 (14:12)

After dropping down in the standings, Paraguay bounced back and after a hard-fought win against India, in the groups of the President’s Cup, the South American side produced the best performance so far in the competition.

They conceded only 13 goals against a Guinea side which was never really providing enough in attack, scoring only with 37% of their shots throughout the match, as Paraguay had Fiorella Agustina Ramirez Bernal scoring nine goals.

Goalkeeper Alessandra Abigail Perez Sandoval also had 14 saves for 57% saving efficiency, as Paraguay will now face Türkiye in the Placement Match 25/26.

Guinea will meet Tunisia in the battle for the 27th place, in yet another all-African derby, after Türkiye provided a great overall performance against the African side. Buket Seven, probably Türkiye’s most consistent player in this competition, was the fulcrum of their attack, while Tunisia made too many easy mistakes, conceding a big opportunity to finish higher.

Seven and Hande Muhcu both had six goals, with Seven adding three more assists, as her side secured the 31:28 win.
