Peru and Colombia strike gold at the IHF Trophy South and Central America

Peru’s youth team and Colombia’s junior team claimed gold at the 2025 IHF Trophy South and Central America - South America Zone – Women, securing spots in the continental phase of the competition.

The tournament was held in Lima, Peru, from 23 to 27 July, featuring four teams in both the youth and junior categories: Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela. In each division, teams first played a round-robin group stage. The top two advanced to the final, while the third and fourth-placed teams met in the bronze medal match.

In the youth competition, Venezuela dominated the group stage, winning all their matches—defeating Ecuador 42:8, Colombia 43:22, and Peru 32:29. Peru ranked second after winning against Colombia 40:16 and Ecuador 61:20.

However, in the final, Peru turned the tables with an impressive attacking display, defeating Venezuela 35:32 to win the title. Colombia secured the bronze by beating Ecuador 28:20.

In the junior category, Colombia topped the group after beating Venezuela and Peru—both 25:19—and overwhelming Ecuador 49:6. Venezuela bounced back from their loss to Colombia by defeating Ecuador 82:6 and Peru 33:23, setting up a rematch in the final.

The gold medal game was closely contested, but Colombia edged out Venezuela 34:32 to take the title. Peru claimed bronze after overcoming Ecuador.

With these victories, both Peru’s youth and Colombia’s junior teams advance to the continental phase of the IHF Trophy competition.
