Guinea men's youth team secure title at IHF Trophy Zone 2 Africa

In the Men's IHF Trophy Zone 2 Africa in Nouakchott, the round-robin tournament in the youth (U18) event is approaching the end. On Thursday 16 May, Sierra Leone beat Mali 43:27, and the match between Guinea and Mauritania was stopped after nine minutes played when Guinea led 6:0, and eventually Guinea were given a 10:0 victory. 

Therefore, Guinea have secured the title, as with six points after three matches, they have a head-to-head advantage over the second-placed Senegal, who have four points. Sierra Leone, Mali and Mauritania are level before the matches on Friday, when Mauritania will play Senegal at 16:30 (local time), and Guinea will face Mali at 18:00. 
In the junior (U20) tournament, both semi-finals were played. Guinea left no chance to home side Mauritania (40:21), while Senegal defeated Sierra Leone 34:25. In the placement match 5-6, Gambia snatched a victory from Mali, 39:38.

In the final match on Friday, Guinea face Senegal at 18:30, and two hours earlier, Mauritania and Sierra Leone will fight for the third position.

Finalists determined in Addis Ababa

Thursday was also the fourth day of the Men's IHF Trophy Zone 5 Africa in Addis Ababa, and the finalists at both age categories were determined.

The fight was close in both semi-final matches of the youth tournament, as home side Ethiopia narrowly defeated Burundi, 33:32, and Rwanda had the upper hand against Kenya, 27:24. Tanzania took the fifth position, comfortably beating Tanzania 38:13. 

On Friday, Burundi meet Kenya in the third-place match at 9:00, and two hours later, Ethiopia play against Rwanda in the final encounter.

Rwanda's junior team also reached the final, beating the hosts Ethiopia 29:28. In the other semi-final, Uganda proved too strong for Burundi, 43:29.

In the final on Friday, Rwanda and Uganda face off at 15:00, and at 13:00, Ethiopia and Burundi will fight for the bronze.
