France, Spain and Brazil are the first teams qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2026 IHF Wheelchair Handball World Championship, securing wins in the openers of Day 2 in Granollers, Spain.

Libya vs France 0:2 (0:15; 2:10)

France opened their account at the the 2026 IHF Wheelchair Handball World Championship with a strong performance against Libya, conceding only two points over two minutes, in a clear 2:0 straightforward win.

Debutants Libya showed grit and strength against Spain, coming from behind in the first set on Wednesday, to put pressure on the hosts, but here, they did not manage to get a grip of the match, especially in the first set.

Therefore, France started strong, with Fatih Cuhadar and Thomas Dauzet Vangeon running riot, as they fueled France’s run to secure the first set, where the European side secured a 15:0 win.

Libya’s first point of the match was scored two minutes and 40 seconds into the match, when Mohamed Ali Abdulhadi Alsoudani converted his shot, but France’s goalkeepers still managed to post a fantastic 85% saving efficiency, providing a platform for their team to clinch the second set, 10:2.

France and Spain are the two quarter-finalists from Group A, with Libya following up in the Placement Matches, as the two European sides have two points. France and Spain will play for the first place in the group in the last match of the preliminary round in the evening.

Brazil vs India 2:0 (12:4; 14:2)

Brazil are the first team to be confirmed as group winners at the 2026 IHF Wheelchair Handball World Championship, after securing their second win in as many matchdays, with a dominating performance against India.

The South American side, winners at the inaugural edition of the competition in 2022, won against Portugal on Wednesday and doubled down with a clear win over India, providing a well-balanced performance in both attack and defence.

The first set saw Brazil going strong from the get go, but this time it was not Guilherme Lourenço who led the charge, but Jordean Rodrigues, who had six points in the first set. There was no question about the winner of the set, as Brazil set off to secure a 12:4 win and get closer to a quarter-finals berth.

But with the second win in as many matches, the South American side went on four points, after a dominating second set, where they led 11:0 after only five minutes, with Rodrigues doubling his tally over this span.

India did manage to get on the scoreboard and reduce the gap, with Brazil rotating their players at the end of the match, but they still managed to cruise to a 14:2 win in the second set, securing another clear win over India, which are now on an eight-match losing streak at the IHF Wheelchair Handball World Championship.

India will play against Portugal in the last match of the preliminary round, in a winner-takes-all scenario.
