Egypt or Germany? Saturday's final to crown maiden winner at the IHF Men's Under-17 World Championship

The 1st IHF Men’s Under-17 World Championship will come to a close on Saturday, 1 November, in Casablanca, Morocco, with the battle for the title pitting Germany and Egypt. The bronze medal match will see Spain face Qatar, with the top 8 places being defined in the last day of competition.

  • FINAL: 20:15 WEST Germany vs Egypt
  • BRONZE MEDAL MATCH: 17:45 WEST Qatar vs Spain
  • PLACEMENT MATCH 5/6: 15:15 WEST Brazil vs Argentina
  • PLACEMENT MATCH 7/8: 13:00 WEST Tunisia vs USA

How do Germany and Egypt measure up? Both sides have won all four matches until this point, with Germany scoring at least 39 goals in each of the matches. By contrast, Egypt’s average number of goals scored per match so far at Morocco 2025 is 35 goals per match. In fact, Germany have scored 42 goals more than Egypt, an average of over 10 goals per match more. Germany have also conceded only 79 goals, 17 less than Egypt, with the two sides ranking first and third in the defensive efficiency so far.

Where can the final be won? Probably in defence and, more exactly, in the goalkeeping department. Germany have allowed 133 shots so far, while Egypt are just behind, with 136 shots allowed, suggesting more or less the same tempo applied to the game by the two sides. But the difference is big in the goalkeeping department: Germany’s shot stoppers have saved 54 shots for a 40,6% saving efficiency, while Egypt’s have stopped 40 shots, for a 29,4% saving efficiency.

What about the attacks? Germany have the best shooting efficiency in the competition, 73%, while Egypt are at 67,3%. Germany have attempted more shots – 249 to 206 – and a big weapon for them has been the fast breaks, where they scored 48 goals, a competition-high mark, compared to Egypt’s 25 goals. Therefore, the transition will be crucial in this match and Egypt must cope with Germany’s physicality. In terms of turnovers, Germany have the lowest number, 32, with Egypt lagging behind, with 38 turnovers.

Which milestones can be achieved? Germany can make the double, after winning the 2025 IHF Men’s Youth World Championship in August, and can secure the world title in all age categories, after having already won the senior, junior and youth competitions. So far, Egypt have played the final of both the IHF Men’s Junior World Championship (1993) and the Youth one (2019), winning both.
