Squad changes: 10 replacements made

Bahrain, Austria, Spain, Denmark, Germany, Russia, Sweden and Hungary all make changes to their squads.

On the opening day of the 2019 IHF Men’s World Championship Main Round and President’s Cup, 10 changes have been made by coaches to their teams.

Bahrain coach Aron Kristjansson has brought back in left back Komail Mahfoodh after replacing him on Tuesday and exchanged goalkeepers, with Tobli’s Husain Hafoodh coming into the squad. The 17-year-old goalkeeper has played 10 times for his country, scoring once. Bahrain have now made all the three replacements allowed at Germany/Denmark 2019.

Austria have also made their final squad change of the championship, with coach Patrekur Johannesson replacing Maximilian Hermann with centre back Sebastian Spendier. Yet to make an appearance at top level, 22-year-old Spendier plays his club handball for Sparkasse Schwaz Handball Tirol and will wear shirt number eight.

Co-hosts Denmark have swapped Rene and Henrik Toft Hansen, making their second replacement of the tournament. In comes Paris Saint-Germain’s pivot Henrik, who has scored 117 goals in 210 appearances for his country.

Following the incident at the Spanish training session yesterday, Spain were granted an additional replacement for the players affected and they have brought in goalkeeper Arpad Sterbik for Rodrigo Corrales Rodal. Sterbik has played 77 times for his nation.

In addition to this replacement, coach Jordi Ribera has also used one of his three original replacement places to bring in left back Iosu Goni for Daniel Dujshebaev. Goni has played 43 times for his country, scoring 69 times.

Ahead of their clash against Iceland tonight, co-hosts Germany have made their first replacement, bringing in Kai Hafner for Franz Semper. Right back Hafner has scored 149 times in 68 international matches and plays his club handball for TSV Hannover-Burgdorf.

Russia coach Eduard Koksharov has exchanged pivots, with Egor Evdokimov making way for Gleb Kalarash, who returns to action after being replaced on Thursday.

After getting injured against Hungary on Thursday, Sweden's Jim Gottfridsson has been replaced by Fredric Pettersson. The 29-year-old pivot has played 41 times for his country, scoring 49 times and plays his club handball in France, for Montpellier HB.

Left back Zoltan Szita replaces Gabor Csaszar as Hungary coach Istvan Csoknyai makes his third and final change of the championship. 30-year-old Szita stands at 1,96m and has scored two goals in two matches for his nation. He plays his club handball for Balatonfuredi KSE.
